RIM 1.0
RIM is no longer a tool or toolbox, but instead is accessed via protocols in the Riverscapes Studio - QRiS.
Mapping RIM Features in Data Capture Events
To deploy the RIM methods, we have developed a few different protocols in Riverscapes Studio (QRiS) to assist. Specifically the primary RIM layers of inundation extents, dam crests and thalwegs are included in:
- The LTPBR V2 Protocol (protocol page; protocol XML)
- An experimetnal RIM 1.0 Protocol (protocol XML)
See here for a tutorial on how to use the Inundation layers in QRiS.
Generating RIM Metrics
Once you have mapped the RIM features (or geomorphic context features), you can use sample frames in QRiS and analyses to generate the metrics included in 0.1.0. However, unlike 0.1.0, which calculates those metrics that fall within the mapped riverscape, with QRiS you can have as many different sample frames as you like and it will calculate the same metrics from the RIM data in (a) data capture event(s) for each sample frame.
Hydrogeomorphic Context Features in Data Capture Events
For the site and hydrogeomorphic context layers (e.g., valley setting, confinement, floodplain type, etc.), these are included in the Geomorphic Context Protocol (protocol XML).
Original RIM 0.1.0
The original source code will remain available, but is not supported. That code was used to generate the original Baretlt (2021) analysis was based off, but the methods have been migrated to protocols within QRiS (see above).
RIM 0.1.0 was originally published as a BETA research-grade tool. It was a mix of Python and R with ArcPY dependencies. It had been successfully deployed by others, but was finicky to deploy.
In 2023, development of RIM shifted from its own ArcToolbox into a Protocol implemented as part of protocols in data capture events in Riverscapes Studio for QGIS or QRiS thanks to support from the USFS and NOAA.
